General Manager – Custom Architectural Manufacturing Facility

Our client is a custom manufacturer of architectural products for the commercial markets. Having been in business for over 25 years, they have a growing and loyal customer base of retail chain businesses, health care systems, and restaurants. Their products are high-end, customized fabrication (incorporating welding, lighting, electrical, and design). As a member of the leadership team, the General Manager will be responsible for the development and execution of a company-wide integrated strategic plan generating demand and delivering service excellence for the clients. The General Manager will report directly to the President/CEO and will be responsible for driving the organization’s continued efforts in positioning itself as a leader within their market niche. The General Manager will be responsible for operational excellence and providing leadership and motivation. They will have responsibility for day-to-day operations. Strong people skills, coupled with exceptional project management discipline, will be critical to the candidate’s success. Additional responsibilities will include defining, prioritizing and leading large-scale projects focused on specific client requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for meeting pre-determined revenue, gross margin, direct operating expenses and net margin objectives (full P&L responsibilities).
  • Oversee and manage the department managers, providing direction and promoting efficiency
  • Proposing, negotiating with and directing the selection of general contractors, architectural services, maintenance services and other external firms.
  • Designing and developing sales goals including sales metrics, cost of sales, and sales profitability. In addition, they will work closely with the sales organization and assist in developing pricing, planning, designing client presentations and writing proposals that leverage value proposition to address potential client’s needs, concerns and objectives. This may also include active involvement with closing sales opportunities (e.g.; making client visits, negotiating and providing executive oversight with closing new business opportunities).
  • Maintaining effective communications with executive leadership, making aware of critical issues confronting projects and of the action plans for addressing those issues. Work with other department leaders to define, prioritize, and develop projects and programs.
  • Provide project management oversight regarding the duties and responsibilities of project managers and project coordinators. Create of processes (as needed) to execute projects successfully.
  • Promote and maintain company culture and continued respect for the team members.
Skills & Requirements
  • 10 or more years of relevant business experience in a custom manufacturing organization
  • 10 years experiences in sales or sales management
  • 5 years project management experience required
  • Proven experience managing P & L
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial statements and reports
  • Track record of successfully building and leading teams
  • Able to build relationships with senior level decision makers
  • Effective communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Strong time management skills
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal competencies
Education
  • Bachelor's degree required.(MBA would be a bonus!).
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent in project management Hours (preferred).
